WASHINGTON – The independent panel that oversees the U.S. Postal Service has denied the agency's request to increase the cost of mailing a letter by 2 cents - to 46 cents.
The Postal Regulatory Commission announced its decision rejecting the requested price hike at a news conference Thursday.
In July, the Postal Service proposed raising first-class postage from 44 cents to 46 cents as part of a strategy for dealing with a worsening financial crisis. The Postal Service lost $3.8 billion last year, and the agency has been seeking other rate increases as well, including higher fees for periodicals, post cards and parcels.
The new rates would have taken effect next Jan. 2.
Chairman Ruth Goldway told reporters at a news conference that the Postal Rate Commission's vote to deny the rate request was unanimous on the five-member commission.
She said that in her view, the requested rate adjustment was not due to recent recession, as indicated by Postal Service officials, but was, rather, an attempt to address longterm structural problems.
The decision was applauded by the Affordable Mail Alliance, a coalition of postal customers including consumer groups, small business, chairities, utilities, national retailers and banks.
"The PRC today has helped countless businesses stay competitive and saved tens of thousands of jobs," said Tony Conway, a spokesman for the alliance. "The commissioners recognized that imposing an additional tax on Postal Service customers is not the way to address its financial troubles. Our members look forward to working with the Postal Service on the long-term restructuring needed to restore the Postal Service to competitiveness."

An OLA Meet and Greet.!!
Our MEET and GREET!
I've chatted with Jas in the Online Auction. com Chat Rooms for about 2 and a half years. We both joined the auction site in Feb. 2008. So I thought it was just about time to meet each other face to face.
After a long drive and a slightly sore rear I finally got to meet Jas and her Hubs.
What a warm welcome!
Big Huggies and then I snapped this shot to catch the girl off guard, he he he.
Ain't she cute
Then a little tour of the infamous patio!!! She loves her flowers. Goldi will love this. ...
Then we headed out for an auction.....
What a hoot!! Three different auctioneers and the people were following each one of them like a pack of flies. So speed talking that it was hard for me to follow.
Thank goodness Jas grabbed my hands at one point because she didn't want me to buy something I didn't know I would have been bidding on. He he he........ I don't think I need animal traps.
First outside.
I know why Jas likes these auctions..... because she gets squeezes from good lookin' men
And then to the inside...
Then after a good nights sleep I got up early to get ready to play golf. Looking out of the hotel window was a beautiful sunrise over the mountains!
Jas was meeting me so she could ride with me to help me spot the golf ball while I played 18. We forgot to take pictures on the course but we did get another golfer to take our picture. We just quacked the whole game. She was probably bored but a good sport none the less!!
Then, of course, I had to take a nap. I'm getting old and besides I was on vacation......
Hooked back up with Jas and Hubs in the late afternoon and hung out.
Waiting for the Maestro Chef to wield his wand and make some great steaks. After dinner conversation was great. Of course, the wine didn't hurt a bit either. Steaks turned out perfect!! I was promised a great steak and I got one but I bet they didn't know I could eat so much. *blushing*
I must say it was a fun trip and these two guys are just a great host and hostess.
Like I said before we do sell at OnlineAuction.com and Jaswood2 's experience shows in her auctions.
This is just one cute little item. She has many many more. You can get more details on this 1978 Hummel Annual Bell - Lets Sing by clicking on the image below.

eCommerce and Taxes: Both Sellers and Buyers Will Pay
From Alex Johnson, Reporter, MSNBC, September 17, 2010:
It’s too early to know exactly how much the Nebraska chapter of the March of Dimes raised this week at its annual Signature Chefs Auction in Omaha, but odds are that more than 10 percent of the charity’s proceeds are going straight to the tax man.
That’s because the March of Dimes went online when it bought about 4,000 T-shirts from a Florida vendor to give to donors during its March for Babies Walk last April. The charity often buys supplies and other materials online, and it also raises money online by selling items at auction — racking up a big tax bill in each case.
“We didn’t know that,” said Rosemary Opbroek, director of the Nebraska chapter. “We wish the law was different. It is taking money away from helping ... babies.”

Proud to be a Parent Today
I have to say that today..just a little more than any other day..I was very proud to be a parent!
Today was the first day of school for my boys. They were facing some real difficult challenges this year. Aaron, who is 14 and Autistic, started high school today. Andrew, who is 5, started Kindergarten.
Both of them just amazed me with their strength, courage and intelligence!
Aaron had to board the school bus at 6am just to endure an hour long bus ride as his school is across town. The local school does not have the proper classes for his disability. He then had to attend one of the largest high schools in town for the very first time. New teachers, new students and no idea where he was going. He did so well! I am so very proud..I am bursting at the seams!
Andrew has never been away from home without one of us with him. He is quite the Momma's and Daddy's boy. We were quite concerned. When we took him up to school, he was all smiles and very excited! We got to the door of the school and the teacher said that it was time to say good bye to Mom and Dad..and I was ready for it..the screams..the tears..everything..but none of that came! Instead, this is what my boy said.."Ok you guys can go now..Bye!"..and with that a giant wave and an even bigger smile! I was in shock! Was this my little Cling On child? Where did this child come from? Where did this courage come from? I was so very happy..and sad at the same time. Letting go is never easy..but apparently it was for him! Pride was just slamming against my chest..dying to get out! Tears came to my eyes and his Dad's eyes...but not to his! We worried about this day for months..and my boy showed us there was absolutely nothing to be worried about!
So, yes, today I was extra proud to be a parent..especially to these wonderful boys I call my Sons!
