Vienna Sausages...

...yes...they DID originate in Vienna!

Fun facts about these little appetizers...

The sausage was invented by a butcher from Frankfurt, who had moved to Vienna, which is why in Vienna the sausage is called Frankfurter.
In North America the term vienna sausage has most often come to mean only smaller and much shorter smoked and canned wieners, rather than hot dogs.
The primary raw ingredients in Vienna Sausage are pork, beef and chicken.
The casing is removed before packing. (Whew!!)
The word "sausage" is a Latin adjective - salsicius - meaning "salted'. Salting is the oldest from of preserving food.
In May 2005 the Armour Vienna Sausage Eating Champion Sonya Thomas scarfed down 8.31 pounds in 10 minutes.
It is recommended to use the product within 3 years of the manufacturing date - so dig out those dusty cans at the back of the shelf and have a great Thanksgiving!

Aah, the Golden Years!

A POEM FOR MY GETTING OLDER FRIENDS
A row of bottles on my shelf
Caused me to analyze myself.
One yellow pill I have to pop
Goes to my heart so it won't stop.
A little white one that I take
Goes to my hands so they won't shake.
The blue ones that I use a lot
Tell me I'm happy when I'm not.
The purple pill goes to my brain
And tells me that I have no pain.
The capsules tell me not to wheeze
Or cough or choke or even sneeze...
The red ones, smallest of them all
Go to my blood so I won't fall.
The orange ones, very big and bright
Prevent my leg cramps in the night.
Such an array of brilliant pills
Helping to cure all kinds of ills.
But what I'd really like to know..............
Is what tells each one where to go!

But there is one thing you do not need a pill for and that is to find great buys at a lot of stores on OnLineAuction aka OLA.com. Just follow the link below to find what you want at a great price.

JESUS IS THE SEASON FOR THE REASON

Wool A Natural Fiber

Wool is the fiber that we get from sheep and certain other animals. We get cashmere and mohair from goats, qiviut from muskoxen, alpaca and animals in the camel family, and angora from rabbits.

Wool's scaling and crimp allow fleece to be spun easier by helping the individual fibers attach to each other so that they stay together during the process. Because wool has a crimp, wool fabrics have a greater bulk than other textiles and they retain air, which causes the wool to retain heat. And not only will wool keep heat in, it can also keep heat out. Bedouins and Tuaregs use wool clothes to stay cooler.

Wool fibers retain moisture, and will wick moisture away from the body. Wool can absorb up to one third it’s weight in moisture.
Wool will ignite at a higher temperature than other fabrics and spreads less quickly than other fabrics. It will self extinguish, has a low heat release, and does not have toxins like some other fabrics. It will not melt or drip. It is also resistant to static electricity. These qualities make wool a specified product high safety environments and for clothing for people who are likely exposed to fire.

Wool is a wonderful, natural fiber that we often overlook. Take a look around and see what beautful items can be made from wool!

A Handmade Oval Pendleton Wool Throw Rug from Judy's Mercantile;

A 1991 Red Nato Beret Wool Leather Trim from Akelly110;

Or Lamb's Pride Wool Mohair Mothproofed Bulky Single Ply Yarn from Bchaflingers.

Whatever you are looking for, don't overlook wool! There are many qualities that wool has that other fabrics simply do not have. Take a second look at wool. It is a natural fiber that is good for the environment. So it's not an old fashioned fabric, it is just coming in to it's own!!

roaring 20s Pictures, Images and Photos

The “Roaring Twenties” was a decade in which nothing big happened—there were no major catastrophes or large events—at least until the stock market crash of 1929—yet it is one of the most significant decades in U.S. history because of the great changes that came about in American society. The Twenties were known by various images and names: the Jazz Age, the age of the Lost Generation, flaming youth, flappers, radio and movies, bathtub gin, the speakeasy, organized crime, confession magazines, Hemingway and Fitzgerald, Charles Lindbergh, Babe Ruth, Bobby Jones, the Great Crash, Sacco and Vanzetti, Al Smith, cosmetics, Freud, the “new” woman, the Harlem Renaissance, consumerism—all these images and more are part of the fabulous Twenties!

Christmas Extra -- Stocking Stuffers -- Please Share

Saturday morning was the coldest we've had yet, and we had to jump and run early for an outdoor tennis tournament (BRRRR!). This was the first time we'd needed jackets and gloves since we moved, so I really had to scramble for our winter things. I scored okay on jackets and hats, but didn't have gloves for Hubby. Then I remembered all those little one-size-fits-all knitted gloves that are my all-time favorite stocking stuffers. Sure enough, I found a pair of those gloves in 2 jacket pockets, so Hubby and I each had our hands saved. The only drawback was that they muffled the sound of our clapping when our son and his fiance won the charity tennis tournament, with all the prize money going to the Love Your Pet Expo Sanctuary for Special Needs Animals. It was a fabulous family day!

After we got home and finished celebrating, I remembered those gloves again, and what a perfect stocking stuffer they make, so I decided to look for them here on OLA, post the idea here, and ask the rest of you to post your favorite stocking-stuffers, too.

Here is the deal I found
from a brand new nice friendly OLAer. She has plenty of these, so if I messed up by linking to a sold listing (I couldn't resist grabbing a set of these) I'm sure she'll relist them ASAP.
