I got a new fish tank and am having problems with it. Got 9 small fish for a 10 gallon tank. Five have died and four made it.
When I lived in Fl I had two 20 gallon tanks and an 80 gallon tank so dealing with fish is not really a big problem for me except this time around.
It is strange living here. It seems that the problem is my well water. I ask when I bought the fish if it mattered if I had a well instead of city water and was told it would be better for the fish.
If that is true then why did the fish die within one day. I did float them and had the water they were in at the same temp as the water in the tank. That is the normal proceedure when adding fish to an existing tank.
I set the tank up on Saturday and did not get any fish until Tuesday. The only thing I can think of is the water they were kept in was city water and the change to well water may have shocked them. Also the tank water was really clear until I mixed the two waters. I have managed to clear up the water by changing half of it out ans adding the liquid drops to clear a tank.
I am on the lookout for a fish book which tells about fish tanks and well water. I have looked on OLA and when I put in Fish Tanks I get no results and if I just put in fish I get sent to a lot of places that sell fishing hooks, rods and lots of items for actually fishing.
If anyone has suggestions for me I would appreciate it as I think fish tanks in the home have calming effects and they are beautiful and fun to watch. I had a pair of kissing fish that were so funny.
I am hoping someone here may just have a book that will help me. The pet store I got them from did not have any think that would help me other than to buy bottled water and treat it to take out any chlorine that might be in it.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I know there are lots of people on OLA.COM that are eager to help one another.
Life is short, live it to the fullest and enjoy it while you have it.

I've got a huge book about fishes in crittercache. Sound like the pH is off - you might get a test kit, and adjust it to the type of fish you putting in. :)
Is the book for sale or is it your personal one. Does it tell about well water also? If it is for sale please omail me the link to it. If not then I may be asking you questions. LOL
Boy, CC, this is WAY beyond my knowledge!! I didn't even know you had to float them. I hope that Curio can help you with the book!! Good luck!
