Sixth Graders Fractured Bits of History

Remember watching Fractured Fairy Tales as a kid?   These are fractured but are real efforts at doing research by sixth graders and then writing about their efforts.  I thoroughly enjoyed every one and decided these sixth graders needed a few more years of composition.

1. Ancient Egypt was inhabited by mummies and they all wrote in
hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert. The climate of
the Sarah is such that the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.

2. Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made
unleavened bread which is bread made without any ingredients.
Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the ten commandments.
He died before he ever reached Canada.

3. Solomom had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines.

4. The Greeks were a highly sculptured people and without them
we wouldn't have history. The Greeks also had myths. A myth is
a female moth.

5. Socrates was a famous Greek teacher who went around giving
people advice. They killed him. Socrates died from an overdose
of wedlock. After his death, his career suffered a dramatic
decline.

6. In the Olympic games, Greeks ran races, jumped, hurled
biscuits, and threw the java.

7. Julius Caesar extinguished himself on the battlefields of
Gaul. The Ides of March murdered him because they thought he
was going to be made king. Dying, he gasped out: "Tee hee,
Brutus."

8. Joan of Arc was burnt to a steak and was cannonized by
Bernard Shaw.

9. Queen Elizabeth was the "Virgin Queen."  As a queen she was a
success. When she exposed herself before her troops they all
shouted "hurrah."

10. It was an age of great inventions and discoveries.
Gutenberg invented removable type and the Bible.
Another important invention was the circulation of blood.
Sir Walter Raleigh is a historical figure because he invented
cigarettes and started smoking. Sir Fransis Drake circumcised
the world with a 100-foot clipper.

11. The greatest writer of the Renaissance was William
Shakespeare. He was born in the year 1564, supposedly on his
birthday. He never made much money and is famous only because
of his plays. He wrote tragedies, comedies, and hysterectomies,
all in Islamic pentameter. Romeo and Juliet is an example of a
heroic couple. Romeo's last wish was to be laid by Juliet.

12. Writing at the same time as Shakespeare was Miguel
Cervantes. He wrote "Donkey Hote."  The next great author was
John Milton. Milton wrote "Paradise Lost."  Then his wife died
and he wrote "Paradise Regained."

13. Delegates from the original 13 states formed the Contented
Congress. Thomas Jefferson, a Virgin, and Benjamin Franklin
were two singers of the Declaration of Independence.
Franklin discovered electricity by rubbing two cats backwards
and declared, "A horse divided against itself cannot stand."
Franklin died in 1790 and is still dead.

14. Abraham Lincoln became America's greatest Precedent.
Lincoln's mother died in infancy, and he was born in a log cabin
which he built with his own hands. Abraham Lincoln freed the
slaves by signing the Emasculation Proclamation. On the night
of April 14, 1865, Lincoln went to the theater and got shot in
his seat by one of the actors in a moving picture show.
They believe the assinator was John Wilkes Booth, a supposingly
insane actor. This ruined Booth's career.

15. Johann Bach wrote a great many musical compositions and had
a large number of children. In between he practiced on an old
spinster which he kept up in his attic. Bach died from 1750 to
the present. Bach was the most famous composer in the world and
so was Handel. Handel was half German, half Italian and half
English. He was very large.

16. Beethoven wrote music even though he was deaf. He was so
deaf he wrote loud music. He took long walks in the forest even
when everyone was calling for him. Beethoven expired in 1827
and later died for this.

17. The nineteenth century was a time of a great many thoughts
and inventions. People stopped reproducing by hand and started
reproducing by machine. The invention of the steamboat caused a
network of rivers to spring up. Cyrus McCormick invented the
McCormick raper, which did the work of a hundred men.
Louis Pasteur discovered a cure for rabbis. Charles Darwin was
a naturalist who wrote the Organ of the Species. Madman Curie
discovered radio.
And Karl Marx became one of the Marx Brothers.

An Historial History of Mary Todd Lincoln In A Nutshell

....By A Cracked Nut

I've been sitting here after reading chateycathays post on Lincoln, remembering a book I read on Mary Todd Lincoln. The first thing that comes to mind is the fact that Lincoln would probably not have become President if he had not been married to Mary who was raised in the upper crust of society and Lincoln was considered a real hayseed. Them not marrying could have truly changed the history of our country.

Mary was 1 of 7 children then when she was 4, her mother evidently became exhausted and died. Her father married again and he had 9 more children......no wonder she was considered a grouchy step-mother.....I'd probably be a bit testy myself. Mary obviously couldn't wait to leave home...she went to college then lived with a married sister.

After meeting Lincoln, getting engaged to Mary, Lincoln breaking it off...he was depressed because he was a hayseed. Oh, well, life went on then they met up again and Mary told a society friend she was going to marry Lincoln...not because he was handsome, but because she was going to see to it he became President. Another friend told Mary to have Abe grow a beard so he wouldn't be so ugly. He grew one, they got married, he did become President. They moved to Washington, 7 states seceded, Mary redecorated the White House, spent too much money, Congress got mad at her, she didn't care, the war started, she entertained but did become active in the plight of the slaves.

In the meantime, Mary and Abe had 4 sons. Mary had a series of misfortunes. In 3 years she lost her father, then her 4 yr old son to diptheria, then Abe was shot, another son died of the fever. She fell into a deep depression. Good grief, what would you expect? Eventually her only remaiing son (I can't remember what happened to the third son...gotta leave something for you to look up:) Robert, had her declared in-sane (she shouldn't have gone there) and she remained for several years till her sister got her sprung from the 'happy house'. She traveled to Europe, but was still not happy in her head. She finally took a permanent nap when she was 63....folks think she died of paralysis but was probably a stroke.

She was buried next to her husband, 3 sons, and with her thin wedding ring that said 'Love is eternal' that Lincoln had given her when they married.

The end.....An Historical History of Mary Todd Lincoln in a Nutshell.....

Short Subjects

Today is the END of November.
Today is the END of the OLA Team Blog challenge.
Today is the END of Dr Murrays sentencing hearing for Michael Jacksons death.  He got only 4 years.
Today is the END of Cyber Monday/Tuesday Sale at OnlineAuction.com

Today some Miami folks posed as tourists. They say times are tough, so many people are searching for hotels with free continental breakfasts. "It is what it is, bro, times are tough and they're hungry," "They're just trying to beat the system and save a buck. The first time you're going to get away with it, the second and third time I'm going to ask you to leave." What do you think? Would you do it? Do you consider that stealing?

Britain, Norway, France are closing their embassys in Iran.   British embassy has been trashed by Iranians...they do not want the sanctions imposed by western countries.   Iranians were expelled from Britain.

I wonder what we are doing sending troops to the northern coast of Australia?  The Chinese feel that is a poke in the eye from the U.S......we're going to need more Chinese money to keep our economy afloat.  Australia is feeling some threat from China?  I'm just watching....

I wonder how the taxpayers (US) can afford to send billions to Europe to bail out the euro?  We'll be borrowing more money from the Chinese.

I wonder if today will be the end of Herman Cains candidacy for President?

After I spend some time trying to keep abreast to the happenings of the world....I need to take some time on my store...Supergrannys Treasures .  I like to spend some time at other online shops....I truly have found that the prices at Online Auction are the best and fairest priced.

As an example, this past Monday I sold a 1933 Copper World's Fair Ashtray for $10...I am happy with this sale. The young man was making his first purchase at OLA. I started looking around at other shops....prices for this item was $18 - $22. I'm happy and the customer got a good deal. I offered him a 25% discount on any purchases in the future.

Read some news everyday,  I know we all work hard.    After the END......there is always a BEGINNING!   We'll all enjoy.

Get Your Uruguay Ashtray Here!

I just want to let all you shoppers know that the only place in Manzanola, Colorado, that you can get an ashtray from Uruguay without traveling there is at Supergrannys Treasures

Supergrannys Treasures is a small Collectible Boutique offering Advertising, Ashtrays, Tobacciana items at very very fair prices.

The thing to remember is with the demise of smoking, ashtrays and advertising tobacciana items are rarely being made any more and they will, one day soon, become a hot collectible and will become increasingly rare. Add to or start your collection today. From retro days gone by when almost every home, kitchen table, desk, or place of business had ashtrays sitting around for their employees and customers.

Remember imperfections on vintage ashtrays are not unusual and can be expected as they were heavily used.

Back to my opening sentence "Get Your Uruguay Ashtray Here!".

The words on the ashtray are love, Uruguay, peace.  Uruguay as a whole country only has approx 3.5 million citizens.  They love their beef...they have lots of grassland to feed the cattle.  Doesn't this look like a newly purchased ashtray?  It's not, I've had it for many years.  CLICK HERE to View this Item
