Warning Signs Of A Bad Thanksgiving

8. Most frequently used word at dinner: Heimlich

7. The "turkey" is wearing a dog collar.

6. Instead of "white meat or dark meat?", you are asking "bone or gristle?".

5. The thing you are most thankful for? Everyone leaving.

4. Local shop runs out of pilgrim costumes, so people dress as astronauts.

3. More than once, you deliberately try to choke on a turkey bone.

2. You are being thankful for the attractively priced combo meals at Taco Bell.

... and the #1 Warning Sign Of A Bad Thanksgiving ...

1. Turkeys are sold out, so you end up with a butterball frozen woodchuck.

Please don't stress over Thanksgiving preparations...
just relax...
and take some "ME" time on...

So very thankful for my Dad

It’s almost time!! Tomorrow morning, VERY early in the morning, about 3 a.m., we will hit the road for Montana. It’s a LONG drive!! And the older we get the longer it gets!! But it’s worth it!! Because I get to see my Daddy!! (picture is of Daddy and me)

Daddy has a birthday coming up on the 14th and we will be there with bells on! He is turning 96 this year, still lives on his own with his dog, Whiskey.

I am so thankful for my dad that I thought that perhaps this might get you to thinking about who you are grateful for . . . . we all have someone! I, of course, have my hubby, my kids, and my grandkids. And now we have my father-in-law living with us who is my second dad!!

We had a special celebration when Daddy turned 90, after church. Everyone was there and each of us, my older sister, younger brother, and I shared our special thoughts about Daddy along with our spouses thoughts; Daddy is also thought of very highly by them!!

This is what I wrote:

“Dear Daddy,

I would like you to know how much I love you. I have always looked up to you as my father but have always called you Daddy because you are very special to me.

You gave everything to us that you had to give when we were growing up. You were always quiet and never yelled or got mad at us. I think that is why I always preferred a spanking from Mom over talking to you! I didn’t want to see the disappointment in your eyes. I think that was even harder to face. Even today, I feel the same. You have been the role model for us all and I can only hope to achieve half of what you have achieved.

I want to thank you for being there for me whenever I needed a shoulder to cry on. You have always put things into perspective for me. Do you know, I never realized, until this year when Bethany moved away, how much I must have hurt you and Mom when I left Montana. I am so sorry for causing you pain. You stood by me in my decision and let me try my wings. For that I thank you very much because in my flight I found a very dear man who, in my eyes, is just as wonderful to me as my father was to my mother. I want to thank you and Mom for being such wonderful role models in my life that I was able to choose someone who respects me and loves me for who I am. I can never repay you for that.

You and Mom worked so hard to put things together for us all. I remember the times you worked late into the night making furniture because we didn’t have any. I remember the Christmas when you were in school and Mom and Grandma made all those stuffed animals for us. Did you know that that was one of the best Christmas’ that I can remember? I remember all the work you did to our bedroom in Basin, the little cupboard, table and bunk bed for Susan’s and my dolls. You and Mom kept working every year to come up with something new at Christmas and I treasure every gift, not just because they are pretty, but because you and Mom put so much love into everything you made us. You both worked unselfishly for our benefits and I want you to know how much I appreciate everything you did for us. Even now, you drop everything to make things for us that we ask for.

In your personal lives, you and Mom put us first and held together strong and fast. The keeping of your marriage vows played a very large part in our lives and I know that it wasn’t always easy. Marriage is work but you and Mother always showed each other respect and love and that was one of the greatest gifts that you gave us. Thank you, Daddy.

I know that it was hard to keep going after Mom went to be with the Lord, but you have done so with determination and have shown us that life does go on. You have shown me that faith in the Lord works wonders and have given me a belief that cannot be put aside. Thank you, Daddy, for being you. I could not have been more blessed than having you and Mom as my parents.

Happy Birthday! I love you!!!!

Amy”

So, if you have someone special in your life and it’s been awhile since you told them HOW special they are, do it today. Write a letter, send a card, give them a call and tell them that you love them. Each day is ticking away and we don’t know when that clock is going to stop so don’t wait.

Make the most of what you have and be thankful for it. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Store Decorating for Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving on the horizon, OLA Store Owners have replaced the ghosts, spiders and pumpkins of Halloween with bountiful images of the autumn harvest and breathtaking fall colors. This holiday offers no prize for creative design, as OLA management seems to be holding out to see what members can dream up for Christmas! Contest or not, those who love to decorate can always be found bringing fresh life to their storefronts with graphics to suit the season.

Take mine, for example, (FleaPirates)... the lovely painting shown above now invites you to leisurely browse my store, much as the two folks in the painting are taking a leisurely walk down this hauntingly beautiful autumn path.

I wonder how many different store decorations you could find at OnlineAuction.com right now?

For sure, I have not discovered them all! I would, however, like to share just a peek at some of my favorite fall-themed stores. Be sure to click on their names and visit their store directly, so that the full effect of their decorating can be enjoyed. You never know... you might find just the treasure you're hunting for, if you take the time to visit! OLA members have the best deals!

KornKountryTreasures has combined poetry, motion and music to set the stage for these cute youngsters to welcome you!

SuperGranny has stepped out this season Art-Deco Style, with perfectly matched shades of orange, purple and black. Stunning!

Bring Back The Age of Penpals!

In today's digital world, it's so easy to whip out an email, compose a short Facebook message, or talk to our friends via a 140 character tweet. It's expected. It's also pretty impersonal, wouldn't you agree?

Bring back the age of Penpals, I say! Did you ever have a penpal? I was fortunate at the age of 9, I think, to find a friend who loved horses as much as I did. We were both a member of the same club. She lived in Oklahoma and I lived in Illinois. So we became penpals and good friends in an instant! My Dad, bless his heart, even rerouted a family vacation so that we could drive through Oklahoma and meet her. I was thrilled to finally get to see my friend in person.

The best part about being penpals is the intimacy that writing requires and the charm that a hand-written correspondence elicits! You must care enough about that person to sit down and write intelligently... not just a quick electronic, "Hey! How are ya?" Penpals ask each other questions and they actually want to know the answers! They write of emotions, experiences, celebrations, and disappointments. They listen... they learn about each other... and they share a bond that is only comparable to the bond of best friends forever.

When was the last time you wrote a heart-felt note or letter to a friend or family member? (Not counting signing your name to a generic greeting card!)  And when was the last time you received one? Do you remember how exciting it was to see something other than bills or advertisements in your mail?

I have a penpal today. Oh yes, we talk on the phone, when time permits, and send emails and text messages, etc., but nothing quite compares to the letter.

Who could you surprise with a letter today?

Here's a good way to get started... each is available at OnlineAuction.com!

I Am Thankful For.......

.......all members of our military who put themselves in harms way to protect our freedom...we must do our part...be informed and vote accordingly.

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt...

I am thankful I wake up every morning to read my handwritten note to myself..'choose to be happy today'. Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.

I am thankful I found out how to take the 'gas' out of canned beans...(rinse, cook for 10 mins in 1/4 C tap water and 2 tsp of vinegar, rinse and use)

I am making sure I have all the makings for our usual Thanksgiving dinner...musing about the turkey....thankful I am not a turkey.

It's Thanksgiving soon so let’s ignore diet tips at least until the leftovers are gone. Remember, “tips” spelled backwards is “spit.”..........that’s gotta mean something.

I am thankful that if I don't finish something today, I can finish it up tomorrow....think I'll take a nap....

King Tom Turkey An American Tradition Sauce Gravy Boat for Thanksgiving

Here I have a wonderful King Tom Turkey An American Tradition Sauce Gravy Boat. This item consists of 3 pieces-bottom, lid, and ladle. The pattern is called King Tom, and it is marked on the bottom: "KING TOM An American Tradition Hand Decorated underglaze genuine ironstone". This sauce boat is decorated with transfers of turkeys and fall fruits and vegetables. There is also a feather-like design on the handles, attached saucer, and ladle handle. The rounded dish has two curved handles on the side, and the underplate is attached. The lid has a figural turkey head as the finial, with a cut-out for the ladle to come through. With the lid in place on the dish, the dish handles look like the turkey's wings, and the ladle looks like tail feathers. Simply an adorable and hard-to-find item from this line. There are no chips on the lid, ladle, or bottom dish. The bottom dish has quite a bit of crazing (as this pattern is known for), but no chips or cracks. The lid has just very minor crazing, and no cracks or chips. The ladle has no chips or cracks, and no noticeable crazing, either. Overall size is approx. 8" tall, measuring to the top of the turkey's head, and it is about 7" in diameter.

This King Tom Turkey An American Tradition Sauce Gravy Boat is available for purchase at www.onlineauction.com . Shipping and insurance is included in the purchase price.

Check out my OLA Store to see what other collectible and vintage treasures I currently have available.
