Collecting Corgi Diecast Cars

I recently listed a lot of Corgi Batmobiles for my friend and neighbor.  When I say "a lot," I mean 24.  Twenty four Mint in their Original Boxes--Corgi Batmobiles.

Not having experience with Corgi toys made me want to examine the company's history, and I thought I would share it with you, my OLA Blog Readers.  I hope you find this info interesting and helpful.

24  Corgi Batmobiles  

The lot of Batmobiles that I am offering on OLA are pictured above.  On my auction, you can see individual pictures and get a complete description of the toys.  My friend wants to sell these as a collection, so this would be an exciting opportunity for beginning a Corgi toy car collector.

By the way, I heard just yesterday that the original Batmobile TV car just sold for a cool 4.2 million dollars!  The 1955 car has been on display in North Hollywood since the Batman series ended.  The car's original cost was a mere $15,000, and it took about two weeks (15 days) to build.  

The sale of the original Batmobile may increase the Corgi collector's interest.  The one pictured above is similar to the one that sold.

Corgi diecast toys have been offered to the world since 1956, are currently being made in Leicester, UK.  They are known for their high-quality diecast models of cars, buses and airplanes.  Many were made in limited editions, and have increased in value over time.  It is not unusual to see a Corgi car sell for much more than its original cost.

Many Corgi toys come with moving parts:  doors and hoods open, wheels turn.  Some have figures of the drivers included.  They are sturdy and durable toys, made for years of hard play.

Toys are fun to collect!  They serve as childhood reminders; of happy fun times gone by.  Collecting old toys can be great fun in and of itself.  Think of the thrill of the hunt--looking for and finding that special toy you had when young.  They are usually inexpensive, and depending on condition, will often increase in value over time.

Wonderful, old, vintage toys . . . . .

Gotta Love Them

Don’t get me wrong…I love my pets, but…….


We have a kitty that my son just brought home one day last year. She’s very pretty and most of the time very sweet. However, she hasn’t been spayed yet, and no matter how much I threaten my son that she’s going to go, he has done nothing….he knows me well. Anyway, she’s pretty much “in heat” every other week. At least I think that’s what her problem is. She seems to think my slippers are going to help her out somehow. Her mewling drives me insane!! I mean, I get it…she wants “some”, but really, give me a break. I can’t recall ever being like that when I was younger….well, maybe once, but at least I have a son to show for it….’nough said.


My other cat will be 13 on Valentine’s Day. She seems to have forgotten where the litter box is. But only for pooping. She has no problem finding it for peeing. As a matter of fact, she will pee in the box, jump out and poop right next to it. Really? I’m pretty sure I’ve never pooped on the floor, even though I am older than she is. So age is no excuse. How much more effort would it take to stay in the box to do her business?


I have a dog. He also will be 13 this year (in June), but he’s pretty much a perennial puppy, except when he wants to play old. The strangest part about him is he’s a Sheltie. Therefore, he is supposed to be part of the “herding” family of dogs. Well, I’ve never seen this animal chase down even a chipmunk. Not only that, but I think his brain is in backwards. He WILL herd humans, but only by walking backwards in front of them. He will also do this to the cats if I tell him to “go get the kitties”. He will get in their faces, bark and walk backward in front of them. Do they understand? No more than I do I guess because they just ignore him. The “old” part of him is his suddenly selective hearing. I can call to him and he will just pretend I’m not there, but if I whisper his name to “daddy”, he will come running to see what I’m talking about. Maybe that’s not such a dog thing, maybe it’s just a “guy” thing (sorry guys).

All in all, my pets take a sense of humor to live with, but they probably think the same thing about me. But I love them all to death and I sure hope they are grateful for that. LOL

So Who's That Crazy Cat?

Misty and her toys

This is a photo of Misty, my niece's cat. Misty loves her striped washcloth, her very own cat-sized towel. She will carry it around the house as she sees fit, puts it down where she pleases and works it over as long as she is interested.

Her favorite place to touch and pet this washcloth with her soft de-clawed mitts is in the kitchen while stretched out on the striped rug. (Misty has an affinity for stripes.) She also loves the kitchen cabinet, which you can see along the bottom edge of the photograph. She touches the smooth wood frequently while mauling her cloth.

But her favorite toy is her woven blue sun-hat, a corner of which can be seen flattened beneath her. She loves to play with this hat and fiercely guards it from her brothers when they come too close to it. She will often move it because one or the other of them has discovered the hat's current hiding place. That's when Misty usually drags it to the kitchen to work it over.

I was lucky to get this shot of her, before she thought her privacy with her toys was about to be violated. I've never known a pet quite like Misty before, as all our cats were quite conventional.
