Wonderful, old, vintage toys . . . . .

I love vintage toys. They bring a sense of nostalgia. Some I remember more than others, but I love looking at them and would love to be able to add them to my collection! Perhaps, you too, enjoy these older pieces? Take a look . . . see if you can find something that you treasure!

And, last but not least, this has GOT to be one of my favorites!! A Vintage Roy Rogers Cap Shooting Carbine Rifle from OLASwansea! I remember these well, coming from Montana, we played cowboys and Indians all the time! Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were heros!!

Alcohol . . . . . simple and cheap!!

Okay, I’ve used alcohol for several years for removing sticker residue, cleaning laptops, smudges and the like. And I was quite surprised when I found that it can even remove permanent marker (usually). I even wipe down books with slick covers. Just pour a little alcohol on a rag and wipe. Cleans them right up and it dries fast so it doesn’t damage anything. Great for wiping laptops, electronic items, etc. because again, it dries FAST and you are only wiping off the item, not dunking it.

Ever notice your telephone? Doesn’t matter if it’s landline or cell, they BOTH get grungy if you don’t wipe them off once in awhile. Eeeuuuuuwwww!!! Remote controls, too! Have you looked at yours recently?

 

How about your dry erase board? I have one that must be about 8 years old. I keep it around because I like the red. It gets pretty stained with the grandkids leaving messages all over it!! I just take a paper towel, pour a little alcohol on it and rub off the residue! Much cheaper than that spray cleaner! Just look at the before and after pictures!!

Fingerprints on CD's and DVD's? Just use a soft cloth and a little rubbing alcohol.

 

So I keep a bottle around just for cleaning projects!! And there ARE different strengths!! Some are stronger than others.

On the cautionary side, always be aware of what you are using it on. Sometimes alcohol can ruin the object you are trying to clean.

Keep good ventilation. The smell can be quite overpowering. And if dryness is an issue, use gloves to protect your hands.

ALWAYS keep away from fire and heat sources!! Alcohol is extremely flammable!!

I still keep it in the bathroom for the antiseptic qualities, cleaning pierced ears, stop itch on mosquito and bug bites and such but have just upped the use!!

Oh, did you know that if you get into poison ivy, the best thing to do is SCRUB with a degreasing dish soap like Dawn and then rub down with alcohol. This will cut the oily residue and help prevent the rash.

Sometimes the old fashioned products can still serve us well!!!

Vintage Mistletoe Maple Syrup Glass Decanter Bottle

This is an awesome decanter!! It once held Mistletoe Maple Syrup, produced by Bliss Syrup Refining Co, Kansas City, MO.

The decanter is approximately 9 ¼” high with the stopper in. The base is about 3 3/8” across. Stopper is glass and about 3 ¼” long. The label is worn but you can still see the printing.

I knew about the promotional dishes put in soap boxes, in oatmeal and even the peanut butter in glass dishes but didn’t realize they also packaged syrup in pretty glass containers!! But, then again, plastic wasn't in use yet and they had to try to make the item appealing to the American housewife!!

From what I have found, Bliss Syrup Refining Company is no longer in business. All I could find on the on the internet is information on various court cases regarding copyright back in the early ‘20’s. I checked with the library in Kansas City.

The Bliss Manufacturing Company is first listed in 1895, but Samuel Bliss is listed as a syrup manufacturer beginning in 1883. The last year the Bliss Sugar Refining Company is listed in the directory was in 1949. So this bottle is older than I am!!

I also checked with ST Albans, Vermont, which is also on the label. I came up with a dead end here except to find out that they had the bottles brought in for packaging. So, I am not sure who made the bottle!! I do know that it is probably pretty rare to still find the label on the bottle!!

This is a great bottle/decanter!! In very good condition!! I did not find any chips or cracks, not even in the stopper!! There are a couple of rough spots but this is common in this type of glassware.

I absolutely love old, vintage items!! It's a piece of the past that is disappearing so when I do find something like this, it gives me pause to think . . . . . and I suppose that's why I love selling on OnlineAuction.com!! I get to pass these treasures on to people who love them as much as I do! And I don't pay exorbitant fees to list or final value fees!! Ha!! That, too, is a thing of the past for me! I pay one fee, once a year, of $96.00!! For LIFE!! They will NEVER raise the price on me!!

An adorable cats pin from Jonette Jewelry, aka JJ.
It is signed on the back of the male's cat's head.
This particular mark is circa 1970.

The brooch is goldtone,
and features clear rhinestones
