Monet Jewelry

Monet Jewelry

Did you know that Monet Jewelry was founded during the early 1930s Depression years by two brothers, Michael & Jay Chernow? The story that I was always told is this: They manufactured these great Triple-Gold-Plated Letters that were used to put on Clutch type handbags. The letters outlasted the handbags; they wore so well, that word got back to them that they should be making costume or fashion jewelry, so that is what they did!

I was employed by Monet Jewelers in 1978 as a sales associate in Richmond, VA, but I quickly worked my way up to sales representative for the entire state. During my tenure as a sales rep for Monet, which was the best job ever, I traveled to New York City many times a year to sell the fashion jewelry lines to the buyers of the major Department Stores which were located in Virginia.

I was privileged to visit the three Monet factories which were located in Providence, RI, where all of the Monet jewelry was made by hand; I witnessed the Gold-plating process, the design process, I saw it all!

This necklace and earring set is for sale in my OLA Shop now. To buy it now, click here.

Monet made Fashion Necklace, Bracelet, and Earring Sets; the company made what we called Basics: Gold and Silver Plated Pierced and Clip-On Earrings, Bangle, Hinge and Charm Bracelets, Pins, Brooches, Basic Chains in lengths from 15" to 36," and Charms (which we called Personal Statement Jewelry).

At the time I was employed, we offered Gifts with Purchase (GWP) and even some Purchases with Purchase (PWP), using the Cosmetics sales model as an example.

If you collect vintage Monet Jewelry, and enjoy Monet, BOOKMARK my auctions. Why? I am cleaning house. I have lots of Monet--from my personal collection (things I have worn and enjoyed from my Monet days), items from when I was a sales rep (such as catalogs -- they are in my attic, but when I find them, I will sell them), Monet ad items, and some GWP and PWP items that I know I have (brand new but from the 1980s in my attic).

These earrings are faux pearl and rhinestones. The little pearls are very nice and the rhinestones are nice and shiny! They have a clip back and are large in size, about 1 1/8” across. The center is a little bunch of the pearls with a rhinestone in the middle. These, I believe, are an older set. The clips have a little clear rubber round piece attached to protect the back of the ear! They are in excellent condition other than a little discoloration on the backs. The pictures really do not do them justice.

History of Handkerchiefs

New Page 2

Have you ever wondered about the HISTORY of the humble
hankie? As you wipe the jelly from the face and hands of your toddler, soak your
perspiring face, cover your cough in church, watch rings sweetly and lovingly presented at
weddings--know that these tiny bits of cloth hold deeply held rich traditions in global

The first mentions of handkerchiefs in poetry were by
Catullus (87-57 BC). He did not discuss their reasons for use (I suspect they were a
luxury), but look at the date! Ancient times--Before Christ.

Linen (made of cotten) was the preferred fabric, then folks
discovered how to spin flax into thread, and it became more cost effective.

There is an entire handkerchief culture; a number of folks
have devoted time and effort studying this tiny piece of cloth. They are small,
sometimes hand-made, pieces of history, highly collectible, low cost (usually), cross
collectible, offer all sorts of

This blog is not meant to be an exhaustive history, but
written get you thinking about the past use of these darling pieces of cloth.

Quick, Easy, Healthy Summer Snacks

When the weather gets hot, I hate to turn on the oven or spend any more time in the kitchen than necessary, but we still love healthy, homemade snacks. We do it with pancakes. Yup, pancakes. 1 bowl, 1 plate, 1 non-stick pan. All done and cleaned up in 30 minutes. Here are the recipes:

Banana/Strawberry/Blueberry Pancakes

Use the recipe for pancakes on the Heart Smart Bisquick box. Add bananas, fresh or frozen fruit and flax seed for Omega 3.

Spice Cake Banana Pancakes

Use the recipe for pancakes on the Heart Smart Bisquick box. Add bananas, Splenda, cinnamon, nutmeg, & cloves to taste, and flax seed for Omega 3.

We make our about sand dollar size. Freeze in batches, in plastic bags, between pieces of wax paper so they’ll separate easily. They keep for weeks (maybe longer) in the freezer, thaw in less than an hour, and they make great snacks to just eat cold with nothing on them.

Please visit my OLA House for great bargains that benefit the rescue animals.

Here's an interesting article from the Denver Post
about sports card collecting making a comeback.
They say that cards from the 80's and 90's were
so mass produced that the value of the cards remain low.
I still love collecting them, and selling them, though!
How about you?

Corn Season Is Here!

Did you know that every strand of corn silk goes to a kernel of corn?

When choosing corn at the grocery store, there's no need to peel back the husks to check for quality. Just pinch the tops, gently. If you feel a long point, it means the end is dried out or unformed. If the end feels stubby, you've found a good one.

Please visit our Love Your Pet Expo Charity Thrift Store for some great bargains. (All proceeds go directly to the rescue animals.)
