Happy Holidays!!!!

The Members of the OLA Team Blog wish you and your family a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!!!!

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Come Celebrate Christopher's 4th Birthday Saturday!

I can't believe my little man will be 4! Where did the time go?

All day Saturday all items in my store will be 25% off! I will give the discount on the invoices!

Stop by! I will be adding new items too!

Christopher made some excellent progress today in therapy! When the therapists hid his favorite puzzle piece..he actually looked for it..and would not give up until she gave it back to him! Then, when the therapist asked him for it back, he gave it to her!!

Now..that may not seem like a biggie to you, but trust me..its huge for Christopher! For years he would never show any interest in ANYTHING. Once it was taken away..he just forgot and did something else!

Now if we can just get that little angel to talk and let us know what he is thinking and what he needs! That is all I want for Christmas this year!

PayPal and USPS Click-N-Ship Online Postage Shipping Solutions

During this Holiday Season you should have at least 2 different ways to print your Online Postage Shipping Labels. In my opinion, PayPal and USPS Click-N-Ship are 2 of the easiest shipping solutions available.

Most Online Sellers are familiar with printing Shipping Labels through their PayPal Accounts. PayPal allows you to print your Shipping Labels using USPS or UPS. The USPS Postal Services that are available through PayPal are Priority, Express, First Class, Media Mail, and Parcel Post. The shipping fees are taken out of your PayPal Balance. Here is a Direct Link to the PayPal Login where you can print a Shipping Label.

You can also print your Priority Mail shipping labels from the USPS through their USPS Click-N-Ship Service. Here are the step by step instructions. Go to the Click-N-Ship Website, set up an account, and then fill in the information for your label. You will have to use your credit card to pay for your shipping fee.

Just remember, that you can only Print Priority Mail shipping labels through Click-N-Ship. If you need Technical Support, they can be reached at 800-344-7779 option 3.

Blue Ridge China Southern Potteries Watauga Jug Pitcher Eunice Pattern

It's always cool to find an unusual or rare piece of vintage Blue Ridge. If you love collecting Blue Ridge/Southern Potteries pieces, check out this Blue Ridge China Southern Potteries Watauga Jug Pitcher in the Eunice Pattern I have available for purchase at www.onlineauction.com.

A similar pitcher is shown on page 122 in the book Collector's Encyclopedia of Blue Ridge Dinnerware Volume II, by Betty and Bill Newbound.

This pitcher is marked on the bottom with the following: Blue Ridge China Hand Painted Underglaze Southern Potteries, Inc MADE IN U.S.A. Watauga Jug #4. It has a six-sided shape. Colors included in the pretty floral hand-painted decoration are pink, yellow, green, dark purple, magenta-red, and brown.

This old pitcher is in good shape, but being over half a century old, it is not in mint condition. It does have some discoloration from age/use, but the good news is that it has no chips or cracks.

Click here for more details and pictures of this wonderful Blue Ridge China Southern Potteries Watauga Jug Pitcher in the Eunice Pattern. It would make a nice gift for yourself or a loved one who collects Blue Ridge.

Sorry for Being Gone So Long..

Everyone has just been so sick..including me! Now we all have colds..again..sheesh!

We have also been meeting with case workers for Christopher. We have decided to go the "intensive therapy" route with him. This means that Christopher will have a team of 5 therapists working with him every day for 5 hours each day..in our home..

It seems like a lot of work, but Christopher is worth it! Whatever he needs, we will do. Since I no longer work outside the home, I will be here all day so the therapists can work with him as long as they need to. The only question is..will Christopher be willing? He has a short attention span, but he is coming along nicely with the therapy he is receiving now. This intensive in home Autism therapy will not begin until the end of 2011. That is how long the waiting list is for help.

There are just so many children in need of this therapy..and obviously, not enough therapists to go around. During the waiting period, we will be taking him through a less intensive program to get him used to more hours of therapy. This should begin within the next few months..

I look at him when he is sleeping..like most Mothers look at their children..only I cry..I apologize for doing this to him..Where did I make my mistake? Did I not take the right vitamins..Did I drink too much soda..Did I not get enough rest? How could I have done this to my baby?

When I set out to have children..never in a million years did I think that I could be capable of ruining their lives..even before their lives got started! 2 of my 4 boys have special needs..both have Autism..what does that say about me as a Mother? I cannot tell any of you how much guilt flows through my veins every day..if I could take their pain away..let them live "normal" lives..let ME be the one who has all of the problems..you bet your bottom dollar I would do it....

All I can do now is pick up the pieces and love them beyond the moon, the stars and Heaven...and pray to God that some day..they will be able to forgive me for what I have done..even though I really do not even know what I did..some day..they can live an almost "normal" life..and some day..they will love me as much as I love them..

During this week of Thanks..I only ask you to hug your children..tell them every day how much you love them..be thankful for the wonderful lives you have..for even though our lives may be a little bumpy right now..I do thank God each and every day that He has brought these Angels into my life..and has allowed me to love them no matter what I did.

God Bless us..Everyone

Christopher Made Some Huge Progress This Week!

I am very happy to say that our little Christopher made some huge steps this week in therapy and with us at my brother's house!

During therapy, Christopher went right to a puzzle and grabbed a puzzle piece and put it back in the correct spot! He did this with no prompting from the therapist or us! The therapist has been working with him and this puzzle for a few weeks now, and this was the very first time he did it all by himself! Now, this might not sound like anything exciting to all of you, but if any of you are familiar with what we have been going through with Christopher, then you know it is very exciting!

Christopher has never enjoyed being outside at all. We have been working with him over the last year trying to get him used to the great outdoors..just our backyard to begin with! He used to cry just because he was standing on the porch. Nothing but fear and tears for him. After months of trying, he now enjoys going outside and going for car rides! He even brings us his shoes when he wants to go outside! That is a major accomplishment!

On Friday, we took a ride out to my brother's home in Raymond. He has 3 acres of gorgeous land with a jungle gym, 3 horses, a barn with a tractor and lots of open space to just run. We were prepared to get there..and turn around and leave after a few minutes..boy were we surprised! Christopher just LOVED being there! He went down a slide for the first time in his 4 years, went on a swing for the first time..and even went for a pony ride..and a hay ride! I was in tears! He actually stayed at my brother's house for 2 whole hours! AMAZING!! No tears..only smiles and laughter! My little angel is actually doing it!

We plan on making this a bi-weekly thing for him. Maybe even each week. Christopher has come such a long way from that little boy screaming on our porch!

Now, we just need to get him to talk..and everything will be wonderful! Even if he never speaks, just to get him to communicate in some form will be a miracle! The therapists are going to start using 3D objects on a board to see if he will point to what he wants to do. They are starting that next week. We have already started teaching him some sign language also.

I am just so very proud of my Christopher! One day, maybe I will hear him say "I love you, Momma"...I think they would have to pick me up off the floor when that happens!

Stop by his store, Jewelry by Christopher, and have a look at his picture! He is just too adorable! Have a look around while you are there. Maybe you will find something you like! We donate proceeds to help children affected with Autism!

'Tis The Season For Craft Projects

As the days get shorter and nights get longer and colder, crafters start hanging up their garden tools and turn their talents toward gift-giving and home-decorating. Some start thinking about making items to sell at craft fairs and online to make a little extra cash for the holidays. I'm no exception.

All of these items are my own designs and I love to share my patterns and instructions, so I included them on some of my listings. If you want to make your own instead of buying mine, scroll down to the bottom of the listings to find links to instruction pages. I didn't post instructions on all of them, so if you need help making any of my projects, please click the "Ask" button (under the bidding box). Enjoy!

Here are my handmade items.

I also have a lot of craft supplies for sale.

Christmas Listings Going Up Now at OnlineAuction.com

It’s time to get your listings up for Christmas!

Have you noticed a bit more traffic lately? Maybe a sale or two you didn’t expect? Have a question from a new Member? That’s because people are already Christmas shopping!

With only 14 weeks until Christmas, it’s time for OnlineAuction.com Members to get their OLA Houses filled with Christmas listings. 14 weeks may seem like a long time away (less than 100 days!), but in eCommerce, it’s not nearly long
enough!

Consider this:

1. Buyers are on tight budgets this year and that means they’re comparing listings and sites. The good news is that they’re better at it than ever
before. According to statistics from last year, more than 500 million people access the internet at least once a week and of that, at least 52.8 regularly purchase items online.

2. Once an item is found, especially in the case of an auction listing, the buyer has to win the item, pay for the item, and then have the item shipped.

3. Right now, you can save your buyers money by using cheaper ‘ground’ delivery options (USPS Parcel Post, UPS Ground, etc.) and saving money is on every buyer’s Christmas List!

4. Listings that suggest Christmas is Coming are more likely to encourage your visitors to get moving on their own shopping and product choices.

5. Sales that have issues or problems (lost in mail, broken in transit, lost in your store room, product has to be made, etc.) have plenty of time to fixed or taken care of.

6. Buyers who need to ship to other places have plenty of time to win the item, pay for the item, receive the item, wrap the item, send the item to its final destination, and know that the item will arrive in plenty of time.

Even if you just read #1 and #6, you should realize that Now Is The Time To List, List, LIST!!!

Some things to consider for listings:

1. Make sure your listings are friendly without being cheesy, professional without being boring, and/or colorful without being blinding. Holiday shoppers rarely continue to look at a listing that is just “too much”! Too many things going on in a listing will send a buyer to the ‘back’ button
fast!

2. Make sure your listings are grammatically correct. Check spelling AND punctuation! If mistakes abound in your listings, buyers will wonder if you can get the item to them safely and on time.

3. Be careful of what colors you choose to use in your listings! With Christmas listings, the urge to use RED letters is overwhelming… but consider
that red is also used for “stop” and “danger”, not to mention that folks who are color blind can’t see it! Imagine someone who is color blind not being able to read the title in your listing!!!

4. Listings where the seller uses the word “you” (as in “You will love this” or “Your son or daughter will love this”, etc.) are more likely to give
the buyer a personalized feeling about the listing and statistics say that if they feel like you’re addressing them personally, they are more likely to buy!

5. Make sure your store policies are clear and easy to locate. I realize that all a buyer has to do is click on your policy page, but new members may not
see it right away. If they have to look for it, it could cost you the sale. It’s better, especially around this time of year, to include at least a basic
description of your return, feedback, and shipping policies in the listing. It doesn’t have to be extensive, but the object is to make sure your prospective buyer doesn’t have to search for it.

6. Make sure your listing has a postage price in it! Listings that do not include an actual postage price are among the lowest selling listings. Some customers will contact you and ask and some customers will go to USPS and enter their zip codes, but most will just back out of the listing and find a listing where the postage is clear, concise, and posted!

7. Be sure to use proper SEO techniques!

(A) Your title should be no more than 72 characters long and keyword rich.

(B) Your subtitle should be no more than 50 characters long and be the most important keywords from your title.

(C) Your listing should have the title in the beginning as well as the end of the listing (here’s a hint: if you don’t center the title, it will show up directly under the photos at the top of your listing and it will show up directly above the photos at the bottom of your listing).

(D) Be sure to name your photos with
keywords from your title.

8. Be sure to utilize good SEM techniques! Search Engine Marketing is as simple as using Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, your personal Blog and/or the OLA Team Blog. When you complete a listing, go ahead and Tweet it and FaceBook it as soon as you submit the listing! NOTE: When using Social Media (Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, etc.) don’t just spam your items! Be sure to follow this rule: For every item you promote, you need to put something that has nothing to do with your (or anyone else’s) items. It’s as simple as ‘sharing’ someone else’s post, a news story, a good/happy thought, etc.

9. Make sure to check for sales every day! The longer a new buyer has to wait for their invoice, the less likely they are to complete the sale.

10. COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE!!! Thank your buyer upfront for the sale in the invoice, in a separate Omail, even in a regular email. Do another Thank You after payment is received and/or you have shipping information to give them. After feedback is given and received, Thank them one more time! You
cannot over do a sincere Thank You, but you can under do it! You want new (and old) buyers to remember how communicative and supportive you, as the seller, were… especially when they’re still shopping for items… or telling their friends
about how the transaction went.

And one last bit of advice?

Under Promise and Over Deliver. If you tell them
you’ll ship in no more than 3 days after payment clears, package the item up and ship in no more than 2 days. Don’t think it matters? Think about the last purchases you made… you know when a transaction is done right and when it
isn’t… So Do They!

Good Luck and Good Sales!

Secret Santa Returns to OnlineAuction.com

The Third Annual OnlineAuction.com Secret Santa Event is underway! From now through the end of October, you can sign up to get in on the fun!

If you’ve never been a part of a Secret Santa Event, it works just like a secret gift exchange. Everyone sends a gift and everyone receives a gift! We’ve never had anyone not receive a gift! YAY!!!

Here is how it basically works: You sign up, fill out a few simple questions about yourself in a simple questionnaire that will be sent to you November 1, and return the information by November 8. Then you will receive another Secret Santa Omail which will contain the name of the person you will be playing Santa for! You have until December 1 to mail the gift for your special OLA member. We’ve put a cap on how much anyone can spend (no more than $20) and a minimum on what the gift must be worth (must be worth at least $10). Great OLA Shoppers know that they can get valuable gifts for less than $20 in just about every OLA House, so it won’t be hard to find your special member something very cool . You’ll have their questionnaire answers to guide you, so it’s easy to participate and know that the gift you send is something they’ll enjoy.

Know what I like best about the Event? You get to learn a little bit about your OLA colleagues and they get to learn a little bit about you! How cool is that???

For all the rules, dates, and information on this Annual Holiday Event, head over to the chat forums and look in the Special Sales Events & Weekly Games section, or use this direct link: http://www.onlineauction.com/chat/viewtopic.php?p=261853#261853 (remember to sign in when you get there).

Remember, you only have until the end of October to sign up, so sign up today!

Postage Will Not Go Up January 2, 2010

By NATASHA T. METZLER, Associated Press Writer Natasha T. Metzler, Associated Press Writer – 34 mins ago

WASHINGTON – The independent panel that oversees the U.S. Postal Service has denied the agency's request to increase the cost of mailing a letter by 2 cents - to 46 cents.

The Postal Regulatory Commission announced its decision rejecting the requested price hike at a news conference Thursday.

In July, the Postal Service proposed raising first-class postage from 44 cents to 46 cents as part of a strategy for dealing with a worsening financial crisis. The Postal Service lost $3.8 billion last year, and the agency has been seeking other rate increases as well, including higher fees for periodicals, post cards and parcels.

The new rates would have taken effect next Jan. 2.

Chairman Ruth Goldway told reporters at a news conference that the Postal Rate Commission's vote to deny the rate request was unanimous on the five-member commission.

She said that in her view, the requested rate adjustment was not due to recent recession, as indicated by Postal Service officials, but was, rather, an attempt to address longterm structural problems.

The decision was applauded by the Affordable Mail Alliance, a coalition of postal customers including consumer groups, small business, chairities, utilities, national retailers and banks.

"The PRC today has helped countless businesses stay competitive and saved tens of thousands of jobs," said Tony Conway, a spokesman for the alliance. "The commissioners recognized that imposing an additional tax on Postal Service customers is not the way to address its financial troubles. Our members look forward to working with the Postal Service on the long-term restructuring needed to restore the Postal Service to competitiveness."
