Zircon - my FAVORITE gemstone!

One of my favorite gemstones of all time is amazing ZIRCON. To be clear...this is NOT to be confused with cubic zirconia which is a synthetic crystalline product, also known as CZ or cubic zirconium.
Zircon is at least 4.4 BILLION years old...the oldest material being found in Australia.
Due to it's high refractive index (ability to bend light) and strong dispersion, zircon has great brilliance and intensive fire. I have gotten parcels of mixed faceted gemstones, and you can easily identify the zircons as they look like they're lit up from inside. Truly beautiful.

Zircon is also one of the hardest gemstones, yet somewhat brittle, so care should be taken when wearing rings containing zircon. Great for necklaces and earrings!
Zircon colors include yellow, brown, orange, red violet, blue, green and colorless, and varying shades of all. I have some of each color, except green, but my favorite is a golden-brown "brandy" color that looks like it's smoldering inside.

Zircon can be found naturally in Cambodia, Thailand, Australia, Madagascar, Brazil, Korea, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Sri-lanka, Vietnam and Tanzania. My personal faves are from Tanzania.
Zircon is the birthstone of December, and throughout the ages has been said to aid in sleep, bring prosperity, promote honor and wisdom in it's owner...and also helps varicose veins, blisters and testicle problems. (So guys... get some zircon-studded undies.)

You can even find zircon at onlineauction.com! Here is a whoppin' 10 CARAT blue zircon from judyb84

Are you picky as to WHO you buy from?

I am, even more so now that more and more people here in the U.S.A. are out of work and trying to find ways to earn money to support themselves and their families.  Remind you of another erra?  Yep, the Depression.  A Famous time in our history where you never new who would be on the other side of the door when you heard a knock.  My Grandmother said men would come by daily offering to haul ashes away, paint, any kind of work, they were not picky.

So, why do I bring this up?  Well, we need to do our part in this country to hold up and help others who are willing to work hard in providing a service or a result of their skills.

And where can you begin this new endeavor of yours?

Christmas Hint #7 -- Forcing Bulbs

Everyone loves flowers. If gardening is one of your hobbies, now is the time to “force bulbs” for winter blooms. You can probably find unique vases at your local thrift store to make these really inexpensive and impressive gifts. (Just about any large-mouthed vase or planter will do.)

If you want a truly unique gift for a flower-lover with a sense of humor, imagine how this parrot vase would turn out, filled with winter blossoms.

Instructions

Hint:
Try paperwhites first--they're the quickest and easiest to force. Here are the instructions from About.com. (When using a tall vase, like the parrot, just use more rocks or marbles to fill it up.) The most important thing to remember is to use high-quality bulbs. Don't use them if they're mushy or they've already started to sprout.

A NEW DAY

Today is a new and frustrating day for me. I cannot get to my OLA as when I visited Al's sister in the spring I got her signed up to OLA. She has not done a lot because she is afraid to try anything new such as join in the TT sale. Well, I got her to sign for it while we are here and she can see how to do it and see how easy it is.

Now comes the problem. Her computer will not recognize me. Even when I put in http://ola.ocm/store/chateycathey It takes me to my home page and when i click on ACTIVE and then sold it jumps back to her site and shows me what she has sold. I know something sold because in my email I got my notice from OLA but I cannot get to my sold items. I can get to the community just fine and I am glad for that as I can keep up with my blog challenge. Would hate to miss that.

Going to go to the libriary and try to get on this afternoon. If that works I will leave a comment here and let you know. I cannot even sign up for TT on her computer but I can follow it because I got her to sign up. Her user ID is "isarsch". Please say hi and welcome her. I will post my blog from here tomorrow but I cannot feature an item.

Isn't it funny how we get spoiled to our own computers and the way they work? I have high speed and she has dial up. Hers is dial up because she has no other chioce in this area. Her computer is old but she has a new one, just afraid it will not work like this one so she did not hook it up. Sometimes we just have to take a chance.

LIVE IS SHORT....LIVE IT TO THE FULLEST AND HAVE FUN AT IT

The Amazing Human Body

The Amazing Human Body!  Do you believe ALL this?

It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.  (right..and 2 seconds to go from your stomach to your butt)

One human hair can support 3kg (6.6 lb).

The average man's private area is three times the length of his thumb.

Human thighbones are stronger than concrete.

A woman's heart beats faster than a man's...

There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet. (Think about this before you go sucking on someone's toes)

Women blink twice as often as men.  (they're saying to themselves...I don't believe what I'm hearing)

The average person's skin weighs twice as much as the brain.

Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still.

If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it.

Women reading this will be finished now.

Men? They are still busy checking their thumbs.

Andy Rooney

In honour of Andy Rooney

Love him or hate him almost everyone knew who he was and where to find him each Sunday evening. My household like many grew up listening and watching him each week.

Here are some weird thoughts for you to ponder

If one synchronized swimmer drowns, do the rest have to drown too?

If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

If work is so terrific, how come they have to pay you to do it?

If you're born again, do you have two bellybuttons?

If you ate pasta and antipasto, would you still be hungry?

If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?

Why is it called tourist season if we can't shoot at them?

Why is the alphabet in that order? Is it because of that song?

What happens when none of your bees wax?

I tried sniffing Coke once, but the ice cubes froze the end of my nose.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Why is the word big so little and the word little so big?

Before they invented drawing boards, what did they go back to?

Does the Little Mermaid wear an algebra?

Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?

How do I set my laser printer on stun?

How is it possible to have a civil war?

If all the world is a stage, where is the audience sitting?

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Now while you are pondering those very interesting dilemmas and thoughts I will leave you with some famous Andy Rooney quotes I came across while surfing

Anyone who watches golf on television would enjoy watching the grass grow on the greens.

As an old reporter, we have a few secrets, and the first thing is we try the phone book.

Computers make it easier to do a lot of things, but most of the things they make it easier to do don't need to be done.

Computers may save time but they sure waste a lot of paper. About 98 percent of everything printed out by a computer is garbage that no one ever reads.

Death is a distant rumor to the young.

Don't rule out working with your hands. It does not preclude using your head.

Elephants and grandchildren never forget.

Figure skating is an unlikely Olympic event but its good television. It's sort of a combination of gymnastics and ballet. A little sexy too which doesn't hurt.

Happiness depends more on how life strikes you than on what happens.

If Andy Rooney is not your thing but you want to strength your knowledge then you will find a whole line on Non Fiction books right on ola.com
