Christmas Hint #13 -- More Wrapping Ideas

More fun with wrapping! When a gift is too big or obvious to wrap normally, make it a game. We gave our son an air hockey table one year. We couldn’t wrap it, so we wrapped an empty shirt box (boring) with a note that sent him on a wild goose chase that eventually ended in the rec room and his new air hockey table.

When I was a teenager, my brother and I gave our folks a BBQ grill for Christmas. Instead of just leaving it in the box, we opened it, put it together, then wrapped it disguised as an old locomotive engine. Long after that BBQ grill was history, our folks still laughed about that night, listening to us giggle and whisper for hours in the back room, putting that thing together and wrapping it up.

Last year I knitted a 9’ scarf for our granddaughter. I wrapped it lengthwise.

One year Hubby wanted a Workmate for Christmas. The bulk of that box wrapped up under the tree would have been way too obvious, so out came the empty shirt box again. (The Workmate was safely stored in the neighbor’s garage.) If your peeps get wise to the shirt box, you could add a few marbles or wrap up a brick or a kitchen spatula instead—anything to throw them off the trail.

Here's a good example. This folding tray makes a great gift. (I love mine.) It could be wrapped in its box -- BORING -- or you could stand it up and turn it into The Eiffel Tower. How's that for a challenge?
