Save money on your auction site!

Can you use html in your auction site? Are you currently paying for your templates from places like Auctiva? Or purchasing the code for your template from another site? Are you willing to learn something new?

Well, thanks to a very dear friend on OLA.com, I've learned a lot!! Jaswood2 gave me a link for FREE, yes I said FREE, templates. Renee used Donettes for the tires, Oreo Funstix for the logs and stacks, Twizzlers pull apart licorice for the tie straps, marshmallows and coconut for the snow and so much more!
The most amazing thing was she did this all in the bedroom, so she could surprise him!

Telling time . . . .

I like older things. Perhaps that is because they remind me of a time when things were slower, more methodical, more people friendly.

I loved the buffets after church that my grandparents would take us to out in the park. Everyone brought their own silverware and plates and one dish! We always had a grand time! No paper plates, plastic silverware and no waste! Great food and great company!

I loved going to the local restaurant after school, ordering cherry cokes and french fries! Yum!! No MacDonalds then! Sitting and talking with friends face to face instead of texting!

So, while I am reminiscing, I'll tell you about an old mantel clock. It is a wonderful old clock, the kind you wind with a key. It has the chimes on the hour and half hour. It needs a little work as the hands don't keep up but the chimes do!! I don't wind it because it drives my husband nuts. And, for now, the time will always be 6:56!

I love this old clock. My Uncle George gave it to me about twelve years ago. He said it had been his grandparents wedding clock. Daddy doesn't remember but then Uncle George lived with Grandmother for many years before she passed away so he would know many of the stories more than Dad. I can't even tell who made the clock as there isn't anything on the face of it.

Periodically, I look around at old clocks to see if I can find one like mine. So far, I've not had any luck but I found some really nice old clocks that work!!

For the person that loves ornate things, this ANSONIA CHERUB NOVELTY CLOCK - Early 1900's
would be a great gift! From CheeryLane!

This  Sessions Clock Comp. Chime Mantel Clock 1930`s M.In USA from IOffer.ItAll is similar to mine but this one does work! It doesn't have the chime and decorative glass but it is a very impressive clock!

For the person who loves Disney, this Disney Mickey Mouse Sixty Year Anniversary Rare Alarm Clock from Vermonter53 would be a blast!

If you need a pretty little desk clock, Goldi has this Westclox Goldtone Ornate Desk Clock Germany Vintage available!

And I absolutely love the old mantel clocks! This GE ANTIQUE STRIKE # 6B08 MAESTRO MANTEL CLOCK is from Plusizeglamor!

The fun thing that I found was that OLA.com is not just a place to sell WORKING old clocks, it is also a place to sell old clocks for parts, new clocks and everything between!

I found clocks that look like a basketball with the team name on it, I found clocks that projected, I found clocks that even had a surveillance camera in it!

So, stop on over and take a peek at OnlineAuction.com! We have lots to choose from . . . . and if you aren't interested in anything particular, stop in and browse through our store, KornKountryTreasures! We'd love to have you stop by!!

Thank you!

Oh, and if anyone does recognize my clock or could tell me how to find out who made it, I'd really appreciate it!!

Warning! Danger, Will Robinson! Solar Flare Approaching!

From Space.com:
"A powerful solar eruption is expected to blast a stream of charged particles toward Earth tomorrow (Jan. 24), as the strongest radiation storm since 2005 rages on the sun.
Early this morning (0359 GMT Jan. 23, which corresponds to late Sunday, Jan. 22 at 10:59 p.m. EST), NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory caught an extreme ultraviolet flash from a huge eruption on the sun , according to the skywatching website Spaceweather.com.
The solar flare spewed from sunspot 1402, a region of the sun that has become increasingly active lately. Several NASA satellites, including the Solar Dynamics Observatory, the Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), and the Stereo spacecraft observed the massive sun storm.
A barrage of charged particles triggered by this morning's solar flare is expected to hit Earth tomorrow at around 9 a.m. EST (1400 GMT), according to experts at the Space Weather Prediction Center, a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. [Video & photos of the huge solar flare]
According to NOAA, this is the strongest solar radiation storm since May 2005, and as a precaution, polar flights on Earth are expected to be re-routed within the next few hours, Kathy Sullivan, deputy administrator of NOAA, said today at the 92nd annual American Meteorological Society meeting in New Orleans, La.

Scientists call these electromagnetic bursts "coronal mass ejections" (CMEs), and they are closely studied because they can produce potentially harmful geomagnetic storms when the charged particles rain down Earth's magnetic field lines.

In addition to generating stronger than normal displays of Earth's auroras (also known as the northern and southern lights), geomagnetic storms aimed directly at our planet can also disrupt satellites in orbit, cause widespread communications interference and damage other electronic infrastructures.
"There is little doubt that the cloud is heading in the general direction of Earth," Spaceweather.com announced in an alert. "A preliminary inspection of SOHO/STEREO imagery suggests that the CME will deliver a strong glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field on Jan. 24-25 as it sails mostly north of our planet."
Sunday's solar flare was rated an M9-class eruption, which placed it just on the verge of being an X-class flare, the most powerful type of solar storm. M-class sun storms are powerful but mid-range, while C-class flares are weaker.
NASA routinely monitors space weather conditions to determine any potential hazards to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Based on the agency's assessment, the six spaceflyers currently living and working on the orbiting outpost are not in any danger, said NASA spokesman Kelly Humphries.
"The flight surgeons have reviewed the space weather forecasts for the flare and determined that there are no expected adverse effects or actions required to protect the on-orbit crew," Humphries told SPACE.com in an email.
Last week, a separate sunspot group unleashed several M-class flares, and SDO scientists said these types of flares are occurring almost daily as the sun's rotation slowly turns the region toward Earth.
The sun's activity waxes and wanes on an 11-year cycle. Currently, our planet's nearest star is in the midst of Solar Cycle 24, and activity is expected to ramp up toward solar maximum in 2013."

Postal Rates . . . .

As most of us here at OLA.com, know, the postal rates have increased yet again, as of yesterday. Now, it is a mad dash to be sure that we are charging the correct and fair price for our shipping.

I have found that the parcel and priority are almost neck in neck as far as cost is concerned and can even be cheaper to ship priority rather than parcel post in some cases! Why is this?

The post office has fought having parcel post for quite awhile. You can't do "click-n-ship" for parcel post or media mail. They want us to use priority.

I figure that since so many people are still shipping parcel post, they will just let us pay more for that service!! Why not? We have always thought it was cheaper but in all actuality, it might not be anymore!

Consider this: if I ship a package from my home (50276) to my sister (80236) and it weighs 1lb, I will pay $5.14 for priority mail (I can print online and delivery confirmation is included) or I can take it to the post office, pay $5.35 (parcel post) PLUS delivery confirmation of $.85 in the post office, have to supply my own box and it takes longer to get there. Even if I print the label, using Paypal printing, delivery confirmation is still $.19 which would make the box cost $5.54 compared to the priority cost of $5.14. So, I would spend $.50 more at least!

If the box weighs 3lbs, priority will cost $7.14 online and $7.37 plus $.19 if printed online or $7.37 plus $.85 if paid for at the post office.

Regional Rate boxes are also a very good option! But they are only available to commercial so you will need to set up an account to use this service. Order them online and print the postage online. Well worth the effort!

Ordering the boxes, padded envelopes and other supplies is easy and most of these are free. Setting up an account to use "click-n-ship" is also easy! In a lot of cases, if the item is going priority, you can even request pickup!! I do it all the time!!

So, before putting something in a regular box, check out the new prices. You might save yourself and your customer some money by taking advantage of the priority rates.

You can find this information at the USPS website.

Thank you!

Now, if you're bored with my post, come on over and check out our store, Korn Kountry Treasures! We'd love to have you stop in!!

Peanuts...

My uncle, Richard Webster, started collecting comic books when he was a kid, and in fact one day in about 1948 he came home with boxes of hundreds (perhaps thousands) of comic books he had bought  for 5.00 from a friend. My Grandma promptly made him throw many out - not knowing that they would be worth 100's of thousands of dollars someday.
He did rescue a few hundred, and his collecting began. He soon expanded his collection to include signed original comic strip artwork and newspaper strips which he kept until just before his death 3 years ago. He sold some, and donated many many many boxes of his comic strip collection (truck loads, I'm told) to The University of Michigan - 1 million strips! Among his favorites was anything Peanuts by the late Charles M. Schulz. When I visited him about 20 years ago, he displayed some of his favorites, that were signed by the artist, and most that I recall were Peanuts and Dick Tracy.
I'm reminded of this because of some items being sold right now at Onlineauction.com such as this fantastic signed sketch of Snoopy, which was just sold by jnhcollectibles for $265.50!
