Cancer No More - Help the Cause

On September 1, 2014, we at OnlineAuction.com, lost a dear friend and member, Jennie Vibbard Wescott. Her user name was DraggonTagger and she was a dragon, successfully battling cancer 8 times! She lost the 9th battle but she won the war! Cancer no longer has a hold on her! She is FREE! But we will sure miss her!

Jen was our Welcome Dragon at OLA! She always went out of her way to help other members, making friends along the way, not just acquaintances but real friends. She opened her heart and her doors to others in need. And her positive attitude was always in the forefront! Even while battling cancer herself, she was reaching out to others to help them along their journey.

Jen, our DraggonTagger, will always be remembered . . . . for her down to earth humor, her honesty, and her strength and positive energy. Her user name has been reserved. Her store front will always be there on OnlineAuction.com in her memory. Chris and Val Fain, the owners, are making sure she is remembered.

Jen and I shared a passion for crochet. She made the cutest purses out of plastic bags called Plarn Purses! And she crocheted booties and hats galore! She did such beautiful work!

I have gathered (and keep gathering!) quite a selection of items that I thought of selling online but decided instead to open a new store, Cancer No More, and donating the major bulk of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society. Most items costs $2 to ship so the greater portion will be donated towards finding a cure. I do have some purses that I am finishing up and these are a little more but I will detail how much is being donated in the listings.

I also have dozens of Prayer Doilies that I made and the proceeds for these will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I started crocheting these when my husband was fighting AML. These also are $2 to ship and $10 will be donated to LLS.

Should you decide to buy, you will receive the item and a receipt showing the donation. So, please consider purchasing from my store and helping a great cause! Or, if you prefer, you can also donate directly to either the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by clicking on one of the items for sale. I've put direct links in so that people who want to help but do not want to purchase anything can do so.

Either way, we MUST find a cure for cancer! Every person has or will be touched by this dreadful disease . . . . . . . every penny collected will help. Cancer knows no boundaries, no age is immune to it, and rich or poor, it doesn't matter, cancer can and will strike! It must be stopped! That's where you come in.

Thank you . . . . in advance for your generosity and  for taking the time to read this post . . . . . please check out some of the items I have for sale and stop in to Cancer No More to see the others I have listed!

Hand Crochet Baby Hats Caps

This fall, I did a lot of crocheting while at my dad's in Montana. We were there several times and I get bored just watching television. Gotta keep my hands busy!!

I had lots of cotton yarn and started making baby hats . . . . . . lots of them! It's a fun pattern to make and quick to do!! The problem is, I don't have any youngsters this age!! No kids, grandkids or heaven forbid great grandkids, yet!! So, guess what! They are for sale!!

These are all made from new 100% cotton thread, and are fully washable and dryable. The measurements are 4.5-5" from edge to crown and about 13" around. Made for the newborn-3 month old in mind. Simple crochet with ribbing at the edge. The button is there mostly for looks, although it is useable.

As with any new item, be sure you wash and dry before having the baby wear it. Our home is smoke free and pet friendly.

So, take your pick!

Made In America

It is hard to find items in the stores that are completely made in America. Even companies that give their address in the United States of America still have items sent in from other countries. I bought some candy from a boy scout and when I got it the sticker said made in china.

If you are looking for made in America items you should visit ola.com. Americas favorite selling and buying site has lots of items hand made and/or made in America items, such as

This item from Yoigbear66

Blue Necklace Pendant and Bracelet Set Handmade Free Shipping

Or this item from KornKountryTreasures

Green and White Doily Hand Crochet

Or this one from callmemomo

Handmade (by me) Small Tote Bag All Colors

Or this item for sale by chateycathey

NEW FEED THE BIRDS THROW NWOT

The last item was not hand made but was made in America.  Check out our auction  site at ola.com. The best place to be for buyers and sellers alike. You can find just about any item you are looking for, hand made or not.

RETIRING

When some people retire they feel like something is missing in their lives. I know several and some have told me they feel lost and others tell me how great it is.

To be healthy after you retire people should be active. What I have noticed is that a lot of the retirees find ways to stay busy by being a volunteer at some charities. All of the people who donate their time at our hospital are retired and they usually say they could not stay home and watch television and they needed something in their life to keep them busy. Retirees run the habitat for humanity, the humane society and the hospital gift shop and second hand store.

There are some who physically cannot volunteer but they seem to find some other reason to keep themselves busy and feel needed. One who is house bound told me she crochet's baby caps for newborns and gives them to the hospital. She said it makes her feel good and also needed.

Then there are those who are happily retired and staying home. You will usually see them either traveling on a trip or traveling to a doctors office. After being busy for so long while they are working they do not seem to realize how their body will react after they retire. Your system changes along with your activities. Staying active by walking or going to the gym and working out is a very good way to stay healthy.

If and when my time comes I plan on being a volunteer. I am one who truly believes that if you sit around the house and do nothing but watch television you will eat more, gain weight and start the process of needing to make the trip to the doctor for one thing or another. Exercize helps keep the heart healthy also. Heart desease runs in my family but I try to be heart smart.

Until the time I retire and probably after I do, I will continue to have my on line business at OLA.COM. That certainly keeps my mind busy as well as keeping up with friends. I ride a stationary bike now and I walk and I work.

If you are retired I hope you can stay busy and have a feeling of being needed. If you are not retired yet I hope you think about what you will do when you retiree. Most importanly keep moving, a little or a lot it all helps.

Be safe, be healthy and be happy
