I was leery at first, since I'm not in great shape and knew we'd be hiking and climbing over slimy rocks in the river. I surprised myself and have been able to hike and climb just fine... although last time Dave had to give me a little boost to get up a steep part of the trail. We have gone out 4 times now, and just love it. We've been soooo incredibly lucky that on each day, the sun came out and it NEVER rained! (you get plenty wet in the river, tho!)
So far, between us, we've found about 10 tiny pieces of gold...enough to get us totally hooked! Last week, a kid of about 11 in our group panned out a piece of gold about the size of a flat pea, and another man panned out several larger flakes - about 200.00 worth. He got his out of the same hole that Dave was using!!
The picture is of Dave and Kyle in my kitchen/dining room/dog area last Saturday night with the material they collected after digging thru bedrock all day. They sifted it at the river, then packed it out and brought it home to pan, accompanied by 2 Jack & Cokes and some chips. We panned it all out and only found 1 tiny piece of gold... but had a GREAT day outdoors in the fresh clean air. Can't wait to go back this weekend!

Oh you will have so much fun.You know the gold prices are good but it is the experience that is priceless.We have been gold panning and metal detecting for a few yrs now we live in the mother lode country,right up from placerville,ca look it up great reading
You are so lucky! I was really surprised to learn that there's gold here.. but it's true!! Not big ol' Alaska size nuggets here, but still REAL gold!!
Sounds like fun, we always wanted to do this but didn't take advantage when we were physically able to do it...have great fun for sure.
What a fantastic way to spend the weekend and find some gold while at it. We saw on TV that the purest silver somewhere in Ga. We checked it out and it isa about 85 miles from us. Great picture also.
We used to pan for gold. We researched just where and how to do it, but never found any.
Told my hubby about this! He's always been interested in gold mining and even bought a pan one time at a garage sale!! Don't know what happened to it!! I can just see us panning for gold in the little creek down from the house!! NOT!! hehe!! Thanks for sharing this! It's fun!!
